LILITH THE ARCHETYPE AND LEGEND

Lilith came to me in a series of dreams long before I knew who she was. In my dreams she had two ways of making her presence known to me: one, she would appear as the Seductress archetype (Eros.) She would have long raven black hair which covered her breats and hung past her nakeded waist. Her eyes were a mismerising emerald green -- and her irises actually seemed to swirl around her dialated pupils. Her smile was sensual and aluring as her eyes were hypnotic and powerfull. She caused me to feel euphoric and giddy all at the same time. Yet there was something about her that made me hold back from totaly giving (surrendering) my self to her.
The ghosts had warned me, earlier in my dream, that she was coming. They told me she was after me, and they said I needed to resist her.
Resisting Lilith is not what she likes to tolerate...with any kindness. So when I pulled back from this succubus -- as I thought she was in my dream mind -- she revealed her second face to me: two, Lilith can look like a demoness or a"Night of the Living Dead" if she so chooses. I remember struggling with her while she was in both forms. She wanted me sexually in her first form, but in her second form she just wanted to suck my soul dry or did she?
Alright, wake up you Jungian "True Believers" and tell me what this dream might have meant. Of course Freaudian take offs are perfectly acceptable too.
For me the dream meant that my dark femine side -- the dark or shadowy animia -- was trying to regain control of my more dominant Logos or Animus side. Prehaps for the simple reason to inable me to become more creative or maybe it had a darker purpose.
Whatever the reason may have been, there is one thing which is crystal clear to me, Lilith wanted to make conntact...she desired a connection into the corporeal world of matter and energy. And thru me she gained her access.
I have researched through out many books and sites on the net about Lilith since that long ago dream, and one of the things which I discovered, was how deep Lilith has touched us all. There is a very famous painting by Dante Rossetti, the founding father of the Brotherhood of the PreRaphaelites, of Lilith. I have featured it here at this site as the main photo. It was painted in the mid 1800s in water color by Rossetti.
Rossetti was fascinated by three archetypes of women: (1) The Virgin, (2) The Seductress, and (3) The Fallen Woman. Trough out his brief but brilliantly inspired career, he saw his sister as the Virgin (the Virgin Mary), he saw his wife to be, as both the Seductress (Lilith), and later, as the Fallen Woman. Her first name was Elizabeth, but he called her Lizzy. The point is that he intially started his painting of Lilith using another woman (Sally Cornfirth -- a favorite Mistress and model with the Brotherhood) as the model for Lilith's face. After several affairs, Dante Rossetti finialy painted over the other women's faces as Lilith, and replaced them with Lizzy's face. It was this act, by Rossetti, that has inspired me to do a painting of Lilith using my dearly departed soul light, Joan Leslie, as a contemporary version of Lilith. Interestingly, as I work toward painting the finial portrait of Lilith, Joan's face has gone through some changes. I suppose this is psychological, but I think Lilith did not want me to paint Joan or that is Joan's face because that is not what Lilith looks like. Lilith has revealed to me in my deep meditative thoughts and my continual dreams of her that her face belongs to all independent and free thinking women. She asked me not to make her evil in my novel, but to show that she was a mother who loved her children, but at the same time was overcome by her own ambitions to rule the world.
In a few more days I will post another discussion about Lilith along with a sample chapter from my book: LILITH'S CHILD. I hope you all will join me here at this site and I hope you all enjoy reading my sample manuscript. I am also hoping this will be the beginning of a long and lasting friendship between an author and his readers.

Until next time...I remain your faithful friend,

Bill K.
